Fresh, delicious, and cooked with famous Thai hospitality, food is a highlight of any Phuket holiday. Whether its spicy street snacks or a la carte cuisine, your Phuket dining experience is bound to give you many happy memories.
Phuket dining – Thai and south Asian treats
With Phuket’s stunning natural attractions and great value shopping and luxury accommodation its delicious cuisine is just one more crowd pleasing reason to visit. Hot, sour, tangy, sweet and spiced – Thai food runs the full spectrum of flavours and textures. Smooth noodles, rich coconut milk, crunchy peanuts and fried garlic. Not to mention the incredible range of flavoursome tropical fruits.
Furthermore, like many parts of Asia, Thailand’s street food can be as good as restaurant fare. Or better. A tip to remember is that while the tourist areas have plenty of delicious choices, true gourmets recommend Phuket Town for the best, most authentic local cuisine.
The Beach Bar at Cape Panwa, overlooking Chalong Bay is the ultimate in casual dining. Choose a table on the sand and tuck into fresh seafood and other Thai specialties.
For a treat popular with the locals, try the Phuket Floating Restaurants. Head for the Laem Hin pier on Phuket’s east coast and catch a long-tail boat out to the pontoons. Look out for the soft shell crab, or fat local oysters prepared with Thai style dressing. Delicious!
Otherwise, dine in open air among the mangroves at Mor Mu Dong restaurant at Chalong. Taxi drivers usually know where it is.
Curry rice, ready to go. Plenty of Thai food stalls and diners offer rich, spicy curries just waiting to be spooned onto a plate. Jiya Chai is a vegetarian curry rice diner on Ranong Road, Phuket Town, near the Jui Tui shrine.
In Phuket Town, seek out Lock Tien food court at the intersection Yaowarat and Dibuk roads. They have an English menu and a great reputation for delicious local food.
Or simply wander the streets or markets. Perhaps start with the Phuket Weekend Market in Phuket Town and try what looks good from the carts and stalls.
Phuket dining – international
If you’re missing western food, Rum Jungle at Nai Harn Beach serves a hearty Italian influenced menu. For top Japanese food in Patong, try Kiko in the Diamond Cliff resort. Also in Patong Beach, Patong Seafood serves up Chinese, Thai and international dishes. Look for it along Patong Beach Road, across the street from the beach.
The Ninth Floor, on the 9th floor of the Sky Inn, Patong Beach, is well known for serious a la carte dining. Mom Tri’s Villa Royale is another a la carte restaurant serving Thai and international cuisine to rave reviews. Situated high on a coastal bluff, it has picturesque views over Kata Noi Beach.
Or splash out at Blue Elephant restaurant in Phuket Town and perhaps book in for a class at their top notch cooking school. Located in the stately Governor’s Mansion, its specialty is five star Thai cuisine in magnificent surroundings.
